New Look's Sustainability Rating:

Poor

New Look is a fast fashion brand that is still reliant on high emissions, fossil-fuel based synthetic materials. It has no strategic programs or services to help keep garments out of landfills.

  • Raw Materials

While New Look has made efforts to incorporate lower emissions materials into its garmetns, it still uses a high proportion of high emission fibers like virgin polyester, viscose, elastane, and acrylic. It has plans to reduce its reliance on high impact fibers by increase the amount of lower impact cotton, viscose, and recycled synthetics. The brand has reported progress on these goals withiin the past year.

  • Energy Use & Production

New Look uses renewable energy and has undertaken energy efficiency initiatives in a portion of its storefronts. By 2030, it has targets to incorporate renewable energy use in its production sites. New Look sources and manufactures its materials globally, which is standard practice in the fashion industry. It has worked to reduce the span of its operations by localizing some of its production and sourcing.

  • Packaging & Distribution

The brand has made limited efforts to reduce the amount of virgin plastic in its packaging. It uses recycled plastic and FSC-certified materials.

  • Repair & Care

New Look does not offer repair services or a warranty.

Commons could not find care instructions for this brand.

  • Take Back Programs

Commons could not find information on any take back programs.

  • Slow Fashion

New Look is a fast fashion brand which continually overproduces products, incentivizes overconsumption, and creates excess waste.

  • Marketing

Commons is still analyzing this brand's marketing emails.

  • Transparency & Reporting

New Look has a sustainability page with information about materials, packaging, labor practices, supply chain partners, and circularity, but it makes it hard to find on its website. Larger brands have a greater responsibility to make this information clearly available due to its outsized impact. It is unclear how often this page or information is kept up to date. New Look has a detailed annual report, with a clear, impact driven strategy and progress reporting. Its latest annual report is from 2024.

  • Emissions Tracking

New Look internally measures and publicly reports its emissions on a company level. It includes breakdowns by scope and identifies its top emissions drives. In 2023-24, its estimated emissions footprint was 325,615 tCO2e.

  • Emissions Targets

New Look has SBTi-approved emission reduction targets for the short, medium, and long term. It has shared progress on these targets in the last year and is on track for the short-term targets. Commons could not find verification that it offsets any emissions.

  • Supply Chain & Labor

New Look publishes information about its supply chain partners. It has a supplier code of conduct, which includes provisions allowing collective bargaining, disallowing subcontracting, and prohibiting forced labor.
