Etee's Sustainability Rating:

Fair

etee is rated Fair because it has started to improve its products and packaging, but still has room to grow.

It avoids some ingredients that pose a threat to the climate, including parabens and some other petrochemical-based ingredients. It helps minimize the end of life impact of its products by avoiding plastic and choosing packaging materials that are monomaterial curbside recyclable. It also offers many concentrated products, which reduces packaging waste.

However, Commons found that etee uses a few ingredients that pose a significant threat to the climate, including microplastics, other petrochemical-based ingredients, and uncertified mica. Though it's a small brand with likely limited resources, its sustainability information is hard to find, and it doesn't provide information on its emissions.

  • Ingredients

etee doesn't provide overall commitments regarding its ingredients strategy, but it avoids some environmentally-harmful ingredients in many of its products, including parabens and some other petrochemical-based ingredients. It still uses a few ingredients that pose a significant threat to the climate, including microplastics, other petrochemical-based ingredients, and uncertified mica. It can be very difficult to eliminate these entirely, especially for small brands with limited resources. Its products incorporate organic, and bio-based and/or biodegradable ingredients. etee doesn't report having any product or company-level certifications. Some of its products are reported to be vegan.

  • Containers & Packaging

etee uses primarily environmentally-mindful materials in its product containers, including ones that are recyclable or compostable. It doesn't clearly identify all of its packaging materials, however, and may still use some plastic. It has made efforts to minimize the amount of material used in its product containers, including by offering solid formats, and offering concentrated formats for liquids.

  • Energy & Water Use

etee doesn't share information on its energy strategy. etee doesn't provide information on any water conservation strategies. etee has a global production span, which is standard for the industry.

  • Refill & Reuse

etee helps minimize the end of life impact of its products by choosing primarily packaging materials that are: monomaterial curbside recyclable. It offers some refills but doesn't identify all of its refill packaging. Packaging that is difficult to dispose of adds to landfill waste. It doesn't offer any take back programs for its product containers. It offers bulk sizes for some products, which may help reduce packaging waste. It provides recycling and/or disposal guidance for some of its products.

  • Slow Consumption

It's unclear if this brand releases new items seasonally or otherwise frequently, which can create excess waste.

  • Marketing

Commons is still evaluating this brand's marketing emails.

  • Transparency & Reporting

etee doesn't appear to have a sustainability page or centralized source of relevant information. It shares some information in its FAQ and on product pages. Like many small brands with limited resources, it doesn't share an annual sustainability report. etee shares a complete list of ingredients used in its products, on a per product basis.

  • Emissions Tracking

Commons couldn't find information on this brand's emissions tracking. This process can be an expensive undertaking for small brands.

  • Targets & Offsets

Commons couldn't find emissions reduction targets for this brand. The brand offers customers the option to offset their orders, but it's unclear if these offsets cover production+shipping footprints, or just shipping.

  • Supply Chain & Labor

etee publishes limited information about its supply chain partners, disclosing that one of its production facilities is in Canada. It doesn't publicly share a supplier code of conduct. etee doesn't have a stated policy of regularly auditing its supply chain partners. This may increase human and environmental risks.

  • Advocacy

Commons wasn't able to find evidence of any trade association memberships or any relevant policy for this brand. etee isn't a member of any key advocacy organizations that are blocking climate policy. It isn't a member of advocacy organizations advancing climate policy. It doesn't employ any state lobbyists. etee didn't donate more than $100k to climate-obstructive candidates or PACs from 2018-2024.
