Lacoste
Lacoste's Sustainability Rating

Insufficient

  • Raw Materials

Lacoste heavily relies on high emissions and/or synthetic materials such as conventional cotton and polyester. It has plans to reduce its reliance on high emissions materials, and it has reported on progress towards these goals within the last year. It also uses small volumes of materials that have certifications from GOTS, GRS, RWS, RCS, OCS, RAS, SFS, and RDS .

  • Energy Use & Production

Lacoste has targets for expanding its use of renewable energy by 2030, but doesn't provide transparency on its current status or progress. Lacoste sources and manufactures its materials globally, which is standard practice in the textile industry.

  • Packaging & Distribution

Commons couldn't find information on this brand's packaging materials. We assume larger brands still have the standard practice of plastic packaging and excess waste. It doesn't appear to have made efforts to minimize the amount of material used in its packaging.

  • Repair & Care

Lacoste doesn't offer repair services or support. Lacoste doesn't offer a warranty. It gives basic care instructions that can help extend product lifespan.

  • Take Back Programs

Lacoste has a take back program called Seconde Main, that primarily operates in France. This program accepts the brand's own clothes for resale. Lacoste doesn't share details on the efficacy of this program. We expect larger brands to share this information.

  • Slow Fashion

Lacoste offers some products across multiple seasons but also releases new items seasonally each year.

  • Marketing

Commons is still evaluating this brand's marketing emails.

  • Transparency & Reporting

Lacoste has a sustainability page with comprehensive details on its climate strategy. However, this page is on its corporate site, and doesn't appear to be linked from its main consumer site. It publishes a detailed annual report with a clear, impact-driven strategy and progress reporting. Its last annual report was published in 2024.

  • Emissions Tracking

Lacoste internally measures and publicly reports its company-level emissions It includes a breakdown by scope and identifies its top driver of emissions. The last reporting period was 2024. In its most recent update, its estimated emissions footprint was 755,800 tons CO2e.

  • Targets & Offsets

Lacoste has SBTi-approved emissions reduction targets for the medium-term (5-10 years). It hasn't reported on its progress within the past year. Commons couldn't find evidence that this brand offsets any emissions.

  • Supply Chain & Labor

Lacoste publishes information about its supply chain partners, disclosing their names and locations across Tier 1 (final production manufacturing), Tier 2-3 (materials and packaging sourcing), Tier 4 (raw materials origins). It traces its full supply chain. Its parent company, Maus Freres, publicly shares a supplier code of conduct, which prohibits forced labor, prohibits child labor, establishes grievance mechanisms, includes environmental clauses, ensures the right to collective bargaining, disallows unauthorized subcontracting. Its code of conduct doesn't ensure a living wage. Lacoste has a stated policy of regularly auditing its supply chain partners, which can mitigate human and environmental risks.

Lacoste has an overall lack of sustainability efforts and disclosures. We expect more reporting and transparency from a brand of its size.

Lacoste is still reliant on high emissions materials, including conventional cotton and polyester. It shares plans to reduce its use of high emissions textiles and improve its materials footprint. It shares no information on its packaging materials, so we assume it still relies on virgin plastic.

Lacoste helps take responsibility for the full lifecycle of its products by offering a take back program for resale, though the program is largely limited to France.

It reports using renewable energy but doesn't share any data or proportions. It has SBTi-approved emissions reduction targets, but hasn't provided any progress reporting in a few years to show if it's on track. It does, however, trace its full supply chain and share its detailed supplier list, which helps maintain accountability for labor conditions.
