Victoria's Secret's Sustainability Rating:

Poor

Victoria’s Secret is a fast fashion brand that's still largely reliant on high emissions materials and has no strategic programs or services to help keep products out of landfills. It has no emissions reduction targets and makes its sustainability information difficult for consumers to find.

  • Raw Materials

Victoria's Secret uses a majority of high emissions materials in its products, including conventional cotton, minority recycled and virgin polyester, minority recycled and virgin polyamide, and elastane. Under 30% of its materials are lower impact fibers, including tencel modal and regenerative cotton. Victoria's Secret doesn't have any specific stated plans or targets to increase eco-friendly fibers or materials.

  • Energy Use & Production

Victoria's Secret uses renewable energy in some of its production and in its offices. It reports having plans to expand renewable energy, but Commons couldn't find any specific goals. Victoria’s Secret sources and manufactures its materials globally, which is standard practice in the fashion industry.

  • Packaging & Distribution

Victoria's Secret is a member of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition and has made efforts to reduce plastic and/or incorporate recycled plastic. Its eco-friendly packaging materials include Sappi paper, which is EcoVadis platinum rated, and it has general plans to minimize packaging overall.

  • Repair & Care

Victoria’s Secret doesn't offer repair services or a warranty.

Commons couldn't find specific care instructions for this brand.

  • Take Back Programs

Commons couldn't find information on any take back programs.

  • Slow Fashion

Victoria’s Secret is a fast fashion brand which continually overproduces products, incentivizes overconsumption, and creates excess waste.

  • Marketing

Commons is still analzying this brand's marketing emails.

  • Transparency & Reporting

Victoria’s Secret doesn't have a sustainability page on its main customer site, and it doesn't link customers to the sustainability page on its corporate investor site. Larger brands have a greater responsibility to make this information clearly available due to its outsized impact. It publishes annual reports, containing information on materials, packaging, labor practices, current initiatives and progress, production waste, and energy use, but its reporting transparency could be improved. Its latest annual report is from 2023.

  • Emissions Tracking

Victoria’s Secret has measured its emissions, and has verified them with a third party. It reports emissions on an organization level. Victoria’s Secret identifies its top driver of emissions, by including detailed breakdowns. Its 2023 estimated total emissions were 1,328,930 MT Co2e.

  • Emissions Targets

Commons couldn't find emissions reduction targets for Victoria’s Secret. Larger brands have an outsized impact and responsibility to reduce their emissions.

  • Supply Chain & Labor

Victoria’s Secret publishes names and locations of its Tier 1-3 supply chain partners on Open Supply Hub. It has a supplier code of conduct, which includes provisions disallowing unathorized subcontracting, banning forced labor, and allowing collective bargaining. It doesn't address living wages or frequency of partner audits.
