Asics' Sustainability Rating

Fair

  • Raw Materials

Commons couldn't find information on the overall proportion of materials this brand uses. We assume larger brands are still dependent on high emissions materials. ASICS uses both lower emissions materials such as recycled cotton, organic cotton, and recycled polyester, as well as high emissions materials including conventional cotton and polyester. ASICS is a member of the Better Cotton Initiative. ASICS doesn't report using responsibly sourced rubber. This increases its environmental impact. ASICS makes its shoes with responsibly sourced leather, including LWG-certified leather. It has plans to reduce its reliance on high emissions materials, which includes moving to 100% recycled polyester by 2030 and 100% sustainable cotton by 2025. It has reported on progress towards these goals within the last year.

  • Energy Use & Production

ASICS shares information on its energy strategy. It uses some renewable energy to power its production sites, corporate offices, and storefronts. ASICS has targets for expanding its use of renewable energy. It implements energy efficiency measures in its production sites, corporate offices, and storefronts]. ASICS sources and manufactures its materials globally, which is standard practice in the textile industry.

  • Packaging & Distribution

Commons couldn't find clear information on this brand's packaging materials. We assume larger brands still have the standard practice of plastic packaging and excess waste. It doesn't appear to have made efforts to minimize the amount of material used in its packaging.

  • Repair & Care

ASICS doesn't offer repair services or support. ASICS offers a 1 year warranty. It gives basic care instructions that can help extend product lifespan.

  • Take Back Programs

ASICS has a take back partnership with Give Back Box. This partnership accepts any brand's clothes or shoes for downcycling or donation.

  • Slow Fashion

ASICS offers some products across multiple seasons but also releases new items frequently throughout the year.

  • Marketing

Commons is still evaluating this brand's marketing emails.

  • Transparency & Reporting

ASICS has a prominent sustainability page with comprehensive details on its climate strategy. It publishes a detailed annual report with a clear, impact-driven strategy and progress reporting. Its last annual report was published in 2024.

  • Emissions Tracking

ASICS internally measures and publicly reports its emissions in partnership with, or with auditing from, a third party. It includes a breakdown by scope and identifies its top driver of emissions. The last reporting period was 2024. In its most recent update, its estimated emissions footprint was 793,583 tons CO2e.

  • Targets & Offsets

ASICS has SBTi-approved emissions reduction targets for the short-term (1-5 years). It has reported on its progress within the past year, and is on track for some of its targets. Commons couldn't find evidence that this brand offsets any emissions.

  • Supply Chain & Labor

ASICS publishes information about its supply chain partners, disclosing their names and locations across Tier 1 (final production manufacturing), Tier 2-3 (materials and packaging sourcing). It traces some of its supply chain. It publicly shares a supplier code of conduct, which ensures the right to collective bargaining, prohibits forced labor, establishes grievance mechanisms, prohibits child labor, includes environmental clauses. Its code of conduct doesn't disallow unauthorized subcontracting or ensure a living wage. ASICS has a stated policy of regularly auditing its supply chain partners, which can mitigate human and environmental risks.

ASICS has a Fair rating because it has made progress with its materials and production processes, but still has room to improve.

ASICS uses a mix of materials, including LWG-leather, but it doesn't source responsible rubber. It has plans to improve its materials footprint, and it helps take responsibility for the full lifecycle of its products by offering a take back partnership. However, Commons couldn’t find any clear information on its packaging and shipping materials.

It reports on its renewable energy strategy, and emissions measurement and reduction efforts. It has SBTi approved emissions reduction targets that are partially on track.

Our ratings are based on a scale from 1 (harmful) to 5 (best). How we rate →
