Pip & Henry's Sustainability Rating:

Fair

Pip & Henry is rated Fair because it has started to improve its materials and waste footprint, but is lacking reporting in other areas.

Pip & Henry uses a majority of lower emissions and/or certified materials in its products, including offcuts, LWG-certified leather, and recycled rubber. It also still uses some higher emissions materials like virgin TPU. Pip & Henry uses 100% plastic-free packaging. It takes responsibility for the full lifecycle of its products by offering a take back program for recycling or donation.

However, though it's a small brand with likely limited resources, it's lacking reporting on its materials targets, energy strategy, emissions data, supply chain details, and labor practices.

  • Raw Materials

Pip & Henry reports that 80% its products are made with lower emissions or certified materials, including offcuts. It makes its shoes with responsibly sourced rubber and leather, including recycled rubber and LWG-certified leather. It has general plans to reduce its remaining reliance on high emissions materials by reaching 100% 'sustainable' materials. Commons wasn't able to find a target year or recent reported progress on this goal within the last year.

  • Energy Use & Production

Pip & Henry doesn't share information on its energy strategy. Pip & Henry sources and manufactures its materials globally, which is standard practice in the textile industry.

  • Packaging & Distribution

Pip & Henry appears to use 100% plastic-free packaging, relying instead on compostable and recyclable paper materials. It doesn't appear to have made any efforts to minimize its shipping materials or emissions overall.

  • Repair & Care

Pip & Henry doesn't offer repair services or support. Pip & Henry doesn't offer a warranty. Commons couldn't find care instructions for this brand.

  • Take Back Programs

Pip & Henry has a free takeback program which accepts any brand's shoes for recycling or donation.

  • Slow Fashion

Pip & Henry offers some products across multiple seasons but also releases new items seasonally each year. It limits overproduction and waste via batch production.

  • Marketing

Commons is still evaluating this brand's marketing emails.

  • Transparency & Reporting

Pip & Henry has a prominent sustainability page with high-level details on its climate strategy. Like many small brands, it doesn't release an annual sustainability report.

  • Emissions Tracking

Commons couldn't find information on this brand's emissions tracking. This process can be an expensive undertaking for small brands.

  • Targets & Offsets

Commons couldn't find emissions reduction targets for this brand. Commons couldn't find evidence that this brand offsets any emissions.

  • Supply Chain & Labor

Pip & Henry doesn't publish information about its supply chain partners. Commons couldn't find further information about this brand's supply chain and labor practices. We assume smaller brands operate according to industry standards.
