Thrive Market sources with the environment in mind, and intentionally minimizes its emissions and waste.
Thrive Market has general commitments to stock brands that meet environmentally mindful criteria. It also shares targets for improving sourcing for some of its white-label brands. The brand is a B Corp and a portion of its white-label products have certifications from Fairtrade and/or Leaping Bunny.
It is working with rePurpose to reduce plastic waste through its plastic neutral program, which collects hard-to-recycle plastic pollution. However, its packaging reporting could be more thorough, and it doesn’t share any targets for improving its packaging materials or volume. It does, however, have initiatives to reduce waste in its corporate operations, including having multiple certified zero-waste facilities. It also has some initiatives to reduce food waste in its supply chain but we hope to see more thorough reporting.
Thrive Market helps take responsibility for its overall emissions by reporting on its renewable energy and emissions reduction strategies. It sources a majority of its energy from renewable sources across its supply chain and offices, shares general goals to increase renewables use, and is working to reduce emissions from shipping. It doesn’t share any refrigerant management or reduction strategy for its supply chain, which we hope to see in the future.
It publicly shares its emissions measurements, claims to offset its full value chain, and has science-aligned reduction targets. However, it doesn't provide a current carbon-neutral certification or report progress on these targets.
