Gentle, affordable skincare that's cruelty-free
[Beta Review] Cocokind is rated Fair for its personal care products because it has started to improve its products and packaging, but its sustainability information appears very out of date.
Much of Cocokind's sustainability information hasn't been updated in over 5 years. We hope for some updates soon to be able to re-assess the brand. Cocokind has previously committed to avoiding some ingredients that pose a threat to the climate, but it hasn't provided a clear update since 2017. It appears to still use some ingredients that pose a significant threat to the climate, including palm oil and some petrochemical-based ingredients. On the plus side, Cocokind provides product-level carbon footprint data on every box and offsets a portion of its supply chain through its sustainability fund. It has made efforts to reduce its packaging plastic use and waste. Cocokind's packaging includes bioplastics and FSC-certified materials, and it details exact packaging material breakdowns on a product-level, along with recycling and reuse guidance.
We have not yet evaluated the ingredients and packaging of Cocokind's beauty products.
Cocokind has made ingredient commitments to lower its environmental impact, though it's unclear if the information is up to date as the last clear update was in 2017. It appears to still use some ingredients that pose a significant threat to the climate, including palm oil and other petrochemical-based ingredients. It can be very difficult to eliminate these entirely, especially for small brands with limited resources. Its products incorporate bio-based and/or biodegradable, organic ingredients. It carries products that have certifications from Leaping Bunny, EWG Verified, National Eczema Foundation Accepted.
Cocokind has made efforts to minimize the amount of material used in some of its product containers, including by offering solid formats. It has made efforts to minimize the volume of material used in its secondary or tertiary shipping packaging by offering reusable Boox shipping boxes. It has worked to reduce virgin plastic in its product containers, and uses biobased plastics and FSC-certified materials. It provides extra transparency by showing product-level breakdowns of container materials.
Cocokind doesn't share information on its energy strategy. It implements general water conservation measures. Cocokind has a global production span, which is standard for the industry.
Cocokind tries to avert waste by providing recycling and reuse guidance for customers. It doesn't offer any take back programs for its product containers.
It's unclear if this brand releases new items seasonally or otherwise frequently, which can create excess waste. Its use of product-level carbon footprint labels may help avoid overproduction or overconsumption.

Cocokind internally measures and publicly reports its product-level emissions in partnership with, or with auditing from, a third party. It's unclear if it measures its company-level emissions as well.

It has a stated policy of prioritizing fewer high-quality carbon offsets over achieving neutrality with lower-quality offsets.
Cocokind publishes limited information about its supply chain partners, disclosing some geographic locations. It doesn't publicly share a supplier code of conduct. Cocokind doesn't have a stated policy of regularly auditing its supply chain partners. This may increase human and environmental risks. It has labor certifications within its supply chain, including Fair Trade USA, though its last updated on this certification was back in 2016.

It doesn't employ any state lobbyists and didn't donate more than $100k to climate-obstructive candidates or PACs from 2018-2024.
