CHNGE's Sustainability Rating:

Good

Where CHNGE is doing well: It uses a majority of sustainable fibers in its garments. It publicly reports on its emissions impact and is Climate Neutral certified. Its production partner is Fairtrade certified and uses significant renewable energy to power its operations.

Where CHNGE has room to grow:

CHNGE does not have strategic programs or services to help keep garments out of landfills. CHNGE does not publicly share emissions reductions targets. It does not have or does not make public any supplier code of conduct.

  • Raw Materials

CHNGE uses majority low impact materials in its garments, including GOTS-certified organic cotton. The brand does still use some high impact materials, including elastane.

  • Energy Use & Production

CHNGE uses ~80% renewable energy in at its primary sewing facility, which is certified Platinum for energy efficiency by the India Green Building Council. CHNGE sources and manufactures its materials globally, which is standard practice in the fashion industry.

  • Packaging & Distribution

CHNGE's eco-friendly packaging materials include 100% recycled paper and 100% recycled plastic.

  • Repair & Care

CHNGE does not offer repair services or a warranty. It gives environmentally conscious care instructions for its garments.

  • Take Back Programs

Commons could not find information on any take back programs.

  • Slow Fashion

CHNGE limits overproduction and waste by using made-to-order production. It is not clear how frequently it releases new styles, but as a small brand we assume it has some limits on overproduction due to its scale of operations.

  • Marketing

Commons is evaluating CHNGE's marketing emails.

  • Transparency & Reporting

CHNGE has a sustainability page prominently located in its site header, with descriptive information about materials, packaging, labor practices, and emissions reduction. It is unclear how often this page or information is kept up to date. The brand does not have an annual sustainablity report, though it does report key initiatves through the Change Climate Project.

  • Emissions Tracking

CHNGE is Climate Neutral certified through the Change Climate Project. CHNGE internally measures and publicly reports its company-level emissions, including a breakdown by scope. In 2023, its estimated emissions footprint was 2,063 tCO2e.

  • Emissions Targets

Commons could not find emissions reduction targets for CHNGE. However, the brand has committed to specific reduction actions, such as switching away from air freight and and transitioning 50% of its headquarters' electricity usage to solar. CHNGE offsets its full value chain emissions with vetted carbon offsets.

  • Supply Chain & Labor

CHNGE discloses the region, but not the names or locations, of its supply chain partners. It does not publicly share a supplier code of conduct, though it does claim to protect the right to collective bargaining, require a living wage, and prohibit forced labor. Its production partner is Fairtrade and GOTS certified.
